Allen County Museum
620 West Market Street, Lima, OH 45801, (419) 222-9426. Museum is county-owned and county staffed, housing the collections of the Allen County Historical Society. Historical exhibits, vehicles, fossils (especially from western Ohio), one room of minerals (not from Ohio) including an excellent fluorescent display, and historic buildings. Open 1:30 PM - 5:00 PM daily except Monday and national holidays. Guided tours available
 

Cleveland Museum of Natural History

Karl E. Limper Geology Museum
Department of Geology, Miami University, Oxford, OH 45056, (513) 529-3220. Located in Shideler Hall, at junction of State Highway 73 and US Route 27. FREE. Monday-Friday 8 AM - 5 PM during school year; summer hours 7:30 AM - 4:30 PM; closed on holidays and most of July. Notable displays and research collections of rocks, minerals, fossils (especially trilobites and crinoids), the Fairfield iron meteorite, a 90-pound quartz geode, and models of world's largest diamonds. Free identification of geological materials.
 

Orton Geological Museum
Dept. of Geological Sciences, The Ohio State University, Orton Hall (the building with the bells), 155 South Oval Mall, Columbus, OH 43210-1398. Geologic history of Ohio, world-wide minerals, fluorescent minerals, meteorites, dinosaurs, skeleton of a giant ground sloth found in OH, and mammoth & mastodon teeth. Monday-Friday 8 AM - 5 PM. Talks, tours, and store. Mineral and fossil identification.
